This time of year, the stresses of everyday life can very easily get on top of you. The summer period is the busiest time of year for many businesses, which means more time behind the desk and less time for relaxation. Summer is a strange time in this respect. The days get longer and warmer, and you really should be out there enjoying it all. But with work and deadlines piling up in front of you, it can often seem like everyone else is having fun except you.The demands of modern life can be overwhelming, and can have a negative impact on health and wellbeing if they are not kept under control. For this reason, the need to look after ourselves has never been greater. A spa day is a fantastic way to escape the daily grind and give yourself some much-needed ‘me time’. Just a 24-hour getaway is enough to leave you feeling recharged, refreshed and ready to return to reality with renewed vigour.

For some, the idea of sitting in a jacuzzi or lying on a massage bed all day is thoroughly uninspiring. However, modern spas offer such a diverse range of treatments and activities that you are sure to find something to suit your tastes. Of course, there is nothing wrong with traditional spa treatments, relaxing by the pool and eating the odd bacon sandwich in the resort bar. After all, the goal is to unwind and the relaxation process varies from person to person.

Those looking for something a bit different from their spa day, though, will find that they are spoilt for choice. Special detox spas allow you to banish the toxins of everyday living, with some centres even claiming to make you look ten years younger in a single day.

Other spas specialise in weight loss, teaching you how to eat better and make subtle lifestyle changes to improve your long-term health. Unlike the ‘fat farm’ boot camps of the past, modern weight loss spas offer a much more relaxed and supportive environment for visitors.

If you prefer slightly more physical relaxation, so-called destination spas are a great choice. They offer fitness-based programs and activities that allow you to release energy and unwind in beautiful, outdoor surroundings. Some spas even allow you to get in touch with your creative side, offering arts and crafts lessons with the help of local artisans.

Spa days can also be a great way to reconnect with loved ones. Whether it’s a fun getaway with girlfriends, quality time with your mum or to rekindle a romance, a spa break will inject fresh energy into your relationships and make your daily routine seem that little bit more bearable.

<img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-707" title="Favorite Southern _Candy Making Tips" src="http://www.3dk.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Favorite-Southern-_Candy-Making-Tips.png" alt=" />There is nothing quite like the smell of our favorite southern candy cooking in the kitchen. Mmmm. It causes one’s mouth to water at the mere thought. And nowhere will you find more exquisite flavors, textures, and variety than in the deep south. From New Orleans pralines to our favorite chocolate candy, homemade southern candy is sure to be everybody’s favorite.

Pralines are candies made of nuts and sugar. Here in the deep South, pecans are often at a surplus, so pecan pralines are popular. Whatever the recipe, you’ll need to cook candy to a “soft ball stage” before adding the pecans. When you drizzle a bit of candy into a cup of cold water, it should form a soft ball which does not hold shape. The candy should flatten out between your fingers.Chocolate fudge and chocolate candy are not the same thing. Chocolate fudge is more dense than candy, is heavier, and usually served in smaller, thicker chunks. We don’t know if it’s true or not, but according to the tale, fudge was created by accident. Over 100 years ago somebody trying to make caramel “fudged” the recipe – hence the name.

Here are a few tips to help in your own kitchen when you make these delectable treats.

1. Stay away from candy making on rainy days. High humidity will not allow the candy to harden, and while it may still taste great, sticky candy is hard to handle. While we have eaten our share of chocolate candy with a spoon, we don’t recommend it.

2. Use good quality cooking vessels. Cheap pots don’t heat evenly, so your results will likely be inconsistent. Grab a heavy pot in which to cook candy. Copper bottom pots are particularly good.

3. Cook candy at the appropriate heat. As long as you are stirring the praline mixture (or chocolate fudge or candy), you can keep the temperature up pretty high. Once the candy starts to bubble you should reduce the heat to medium and let it cook a bit.

4. Stay with the pot. Okay, at least stay in the kitchen. Candy needs to be stirred often. It is relatively easy to scorch candy and that’s a taste that is difficult to acquire.

5. Use a candy thermometer to determine whether or not the candy is ready to take off the heat, at least until you have cooked the recipe enough times to be really comfortable with it.

6. Once you have removed the candy from the heat, be patient when it comes to reducing the candy temperature so that you can pour it. If you try to get it to the pan too quickly, you could end up with a nice fudge or praline sauce! Beat the candy with a heavy spoon until it begins to stiffen.

Southern Candy making can be lots of fun, and your family will certainly be happy when you make their favorite pralines or fudge. Try it tonight!

As much as I love the idea of a long weekend at a luxury spa hotel, if I’m honest the prices have always put me off, and my recent experiences at day spas in Morocco and Barcelona have convinced me that you don’t need to pay through the nose for an exceptional spa experience. In fact the best massages I have had to date have been the cheapest ones:

- Around £32 for a hammam, with a gommage “scrubbing”, followed by a rhassoul, and then the most relaxing massage I’ve ever had. I can’t tell you how long I was in there – only that the sun had gone down, I had lost all track of time, and I was on a completely different planet.

- Even in Barcelona, with the euro at an all-time high, the top rated spa cost us around £54 for the hammam, (with extra hot steam room and plunge pool), followed by a gommage “scrubbing” and another extremely relaxing massage. Three hours of luxury for £54 compared to UK prices is a total steal.

The fact is that in many cultures the local spa is an everyday (or at least every month) treat, which, combined with good exchange rates (when they are available), makes them a great bargain on holiday. So why aren’t we taking advantage of them? Well personally I think it’s because, whereas guide books are stuffed with restaurant, sight and hotel recommendations, very rarely do they spend any time on spas. The spa in Morocco was recommended by friends, and the spa in Barcelona was found with some pre-emptive internet research. Later in the year I’m off to visit China, which has some world class hotel spas, but also boasts a proud massage tradition, which leads me to hope that as well as the day spas I’ve been recommended (where prices are about a quarter of UK rates) I’ll also be able to find other more authentic bargains.

Which leads me to the hotel part of the spa and hotel break. One of the reasons that staying at a luxury spa hotel can cost so much is that you are paying for the option to use it 24/7. If, like me, you see your spa time as part of a whole trip rather than a destination in itself, you’ll probably find that one day spending 3-4 hours in a spa is enough (taking into account the detox effects) at least for a couple of days. So just by choosing to stay in a separate hotel you will probably save a hefty chunk of your holiday budget, and you’ll also avoid the temptation to stay locked up in your hotel for your entire stay and miss out on the local treats.

By then choosing an affordable hotel, reasonably close to your spa, which features the required level of pampering (slippers, robe, fluffy white towels), you can relax back in your room safe in the knowledge that you’ll be going home with a designer glow and a budget bill.

Of course this is not to say that there aren’t spa hotels offering affordable deals, but by being flexible and savvy you can make sure that your relaxation time isn’t spent feeling ripped off. And perhaps more importantly, by being more creative in choosing your hotel, you have a much better choice of spa. You are not limited to an in-house spa experience, very important considering the number of excellent day spas available, even in the UK.

Take for example Spa London in Bethnal Green, voted 2010 Professional Beauty Awards “Day Spa of the Year”, where 3 hours of thermal experience will set you back £21.50 at the top of the scale for non-members, down to £6.75 for concessionary local members (including towel, robe and flip flop use) and which is truly a luxury experience compared to the slightly run down Porchester Spa. And then there’s Thermae Bath Spa, the only place in the UK where you can bathe in natural healing spa waters, voted 2010 “Best Spa in the World” by readers of the Daily Telegraph’s Ultra Travel Magazine for the second time running, where a 2 hour session in the New Royal Bath (recommended) will set you back £24 (plus £9 hire cost for towel, robe and slippers if you need them – and you get to keep the slippers!) Unlike many spas the Thermae Bath Spa also offers reductions for locals, disabled guests and their carers, so a local disabled guest (and carer) could pay as little as £9.50 each for a 2 hour session in the New Royal Bath. (You can also buy a glass of spa water at The Pump Room for only 50p!)

Of course London and Bath are not known for their cheap hotel rooms, and certainly in central Bath you might be pushed to find availability, let alone an affordable room rate. However, if you widen your search to the surrounding area, you’ll also find some wonderful B&Bs which would put many hotels to shame, and where you can wake up to the sound of a horse clip clopping past, right in the heart of the countryside. Then it’s up to you whether you decide to explore some old fashioned villages, head back home refreshed and revived, or pop back to the Thermae Bath Spa for just a little more bargain relaxation.

When you decide to take up jewellery making as a serious hobby, with the intention of making money out of it, one of the questions that would probably pop in your mind is whether or not you should take a class on jewellery making. There are definitely benefits that you can enjoy from taking a class on crafting jewellery, especially if you are an absolute beginner, but whether or not a class would be useful to you depends entirely on your learning style. Thus, how do you decide whether or not you should take a class on jewellery making? Let us see what advantages and disadvantages that you can get from such a class. The Pros and Cons of Formal Jewellery Making Classes

If you want to learn how to make jewellery properly, a class is a good option that you can take to pursue this path. In a jewellery crafting class, you will have a teacher that can show you how to get things like bead knotting and closing crimps done properly. From your teacher, you can also learn many different techniques in crafting jewellery, as well as some tips in coming up with your own designs and probably in setting up your own jewellery shop.

Another obvious advantage to attending a class is that you get to share your learning experience with the other people who are taking the class with you. If you are a social person, this opportunity for interaction with your peers can be a valuable thing. You can also network with them when you establish your jewellery making business in the future.

Of course, attending classes also has a few disadvantages. Perhaps your schedule does not have any room for classes. Perhaps the venue for the classes is too far for you. It is also possible that you cannot afford the tuition for these classes or you just prefer learning things on your own. In such cases, attending a class may not be helpful to you.

Self-Study as an Option for Learning Jewellery Making

If attending classes does not seem like a sound option for you to learn how to craft jewellery, then you can always study on your own. You will never lack for materials on jewellery crafting to find on the Internet since there are thousands of websites out there that offer lessons and resources on jewellery making. All you need to do is to download them and read them in your own time, and then try out what you have learned. It may take a bit of a trial-and-error on your part, but you can certainly learn jewellery crafting on your own.

Attending classes on jewellery making is certainly helpful if you are serious about learning how to make your own jewellery. However, if attending classes is not a good idea for you at the moment, it should not be a limitation for you. You can always study jewellery making on your own.

If you want to hold the prices down as well as add a personal touch to your wedding, you might consider going to wedding crafts.

1. It isn’t all that tough to create your very own wedding veil. For this, you will require a particular length of a bridal illusion that you decide on. Along with this you will require a comb and a headpiece or hat to attach the veil to your hair and hide the comb. You start by sewing large inch long running stitches from one end of the illusion and tightly gather it. Follow by sewing the comb to the veil. Cover the whole with a headpiece or hat. Alternatively you could also use silk flowers, pearls and ribbons to decorate a straw hat that has a wide brim. 2. You can also personally craft the floral arrangements and the bouquet. If you are having a wedding that is simple and outdoor, you can use wild flowers. They have a charm of their own and are free of cost. Arrange the bouquets in large clear vases and tie a bow elegantly around.

3. Another appropriate wedding craft are wedding favors for the invited guests. A well-received and simple favor is a refrigerator magnet. It would be a good idea to make the magnet a picture frame and place in it the couple’s picture. For this, you will want to cut out a frame from craft foam in a suitable color and arrange the photo over it, gluing the whole into a cardboard backing. Magnetic self-adhesive tape can be placed on the cardboard’s back. Finish by decorating the frame with a foil of heart stickers including the couple’s last names on a monogram.

4. Another simple wedding craft are bows that are often placed at the end of rows and pews. For a winder or fall wedding, you can use wide velvet ribbons. If yours is a summer or spring wedding, you might want to go for satin ribbons. You can also loop in some flat lace along with the ribbons. Then attach some pearl sprays and silk flowers to the center of the bow, with the help of some hot glue.

5. You could also try to decorate your own cake. Look for pans and other gadgets of different types in the craft section at your department store, to assist you in creating a cake you will never forget. Don’t forget that you need a steady hand for this. Don’t start on the real cake unless you have practiced first.

Wedding cakes are an expensive business, but with your wedding crafts, you can save up a lot. Early planning is the best as it takes time to make favors for people and for looking into all the other details that have to be taken care of. Maybe when you create wedding crafts, you might even get rid of some of that nervousness. At any rate, when you make your own wedding crafts, you add a beautiful and personal touch to it without loosing out on too much money.

Counted cross stitch is a wonderful creative hobby which enables the stitcher to make personalized gifts for the special people in their lives. Large designs are normally framed as pictures. Professional framing is very costly but does bring the picture to life.

There are other ways of presenting completed cross stitch and there are many products on the market to enable the stitcher to give a small but practical gift. Kits are available for projects covering many subjects and some include the accessory also. These can work out to be quite expensive. If you have small amounts of fabric and threads in your workbox why not put them to good use. There are even more charts which cover even more subjects. Taking time to choose a subject for the person you have in mind tells them not only have you made the effort to make something but have chosen a subject they are interested in.

Here are just five ideas for gifts

Card

Bookmark

Keyring

Coaster

Fridge Magnet

These are all small items and relatively inexpensive to purchase and readily available in most needlecraft stores

As these are small items the designs will take very little time to complete. Some simple designs may only take an hour to complete. A more detailed design will take longer. Using designs with whole cross stitch only are much quicker to complete than if there are fractional stitches to work or backstitch.

The items are also practical for the person to display and they are likely to use them and not put them in a drawer and forget about them.

Women simply cannot resist jewellery. Jewellery may have different meanings for different people, but at the basic level, they are meant to accent an outfit or highlight our good features. In short, they are meant to serve as our adornments. Of course, not everyone can buy good jewellery, but anyone can go into jewellery making. If you cannot afford the jewellery that you want, you can always take up jewellery making to create your own unique jewellery pieces.

There are a number of reasons why you should take up jewellery making, and here are just a few of them.

You can always have the right accessories to match your outfit. If you are like most women you would want to find the right piece of jewellery to match a certain outfit. Now, it is not easy to find just the right jewellery piece that would look great on your dress, and this makes shopping quite a chore. If you cannot find the jewellery piece that you want but you have an idea of what it should look like, you should translate your idea into an actual jewellery piece.

You get to express your own personality with jewellery that you create. By creating your own pieces, you actually get to express your own personality through your jewellery and not just rely on the translations that other jewellery makers convey for you. Also, through jewellery making, you can be sure that you are the only one wearing your piece, and you will not find anyone wearing something that looks exactly like your own.

You can make excellent gifts for friends and family. People are always touched when someone gives them a unique, handcrafted item. They will even be more touched if they learn that this unique item was created by the person who gave them the gift. By giving the people that you care about gifts that you have made with your own hands, you are showing your high regard for them because you have invested time and effort in making the gift. Also, what else can be more perfect than gifts of jewellery?

You can learn jewellery making on your own. Whilst taking classes on jewellery crafting can help you hone your skills in the craft, you can study on your own if you cannot afford to take classes. You can just browse jewellery making websites for ideas and how-to guides.
You can make money out of jewellery making. It is always useful to have sources of income other than your day job. Also, the demand for jewellery pieces never goes down. So, if you design wonderful and truly attractive pieces of jewellery and if you maintain a high level of quality in your creations, you are sure to find buyers for your jewellery and even have a steady income out of it.

There are many good reasons as to why you should take up jewellery making. Jewellery making is a hobby that you can truly gain something out of if you put some serious effort on it.
